This Month we introduce Doris Whitmore
Doris has been creating garments since she was just 10 years old, developing a lifelong passion for sewing, design and craftsmanship. Her early years were immersed in the world of fashion, where she spent countless hours observing the work of skilled fashion professionals, gaining a deep appreciation for the artistry and precision behind every beautifully made piece.
Formally trained in fashion - fashion illustration and pattern making, Doris has built extensive expertise across all aspects of garment creation. Her particular passion lies in bespoke wedding couture, where she has designed and created custom garments for brides, helping bring their vision to life for one of the most important days they will ever experience.
A passionate advocate for preserving the art of sewing, Doris believes it is a valuable skill that should never be lost. She wholeheartedly agrees with scientist, television personality and educator Adam Savage's view that sewing is "a kind of magic"—the remarkable ability to transform flat pieces of fabric into something beautiful, functional and uniquely personal.
Doris is delighted to join the teaching team at Sourpuss Emporium and looks forward to helping participants develop their skills, confidence and creativity while nurturing their own love of making and creating.
Drawn from a wealth of experience (and some mad crazy passion/obsession), our classes are designed to support you step by step to gain the confidence you need to tackle the projects you want to do.
At The Sourpuss Emporium, we find that our workshops and classes build much more than skills, they also build a sense of community. You will find classes warm and welcoming, no matter your skill level or age.
